ESIC inks partnership with the Global Lottery Monitoring System

It has been confirmed today that the Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) and the Esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC), have ‘stipulated an agreement with the objective of working together to identify and report any potential irregularities and suspicious betting patterns with regards to esports competitions’.

Ian Smith, ESIC Commissioner

GLMS President, Ludovico Calvi had this to say: “Betting on esports has been growing consistently in the last few years and the global appeal among millennials on digital entertainment is the driving force behind it. esports and in-play Mobile Betting are a perfect combination of social entertainment and interaction. GLMS, has been monitoring the phenomenon over the last 3 years now and we consider esports an area to dedicate specific efforts and commitment given the impact on young citizens and society as a whole.

“We are very excited to support ESIC in its mission to tackle the integrity challenges within the esports arena. Thanks to our growing network which guarantees local expertise and global reach, I am convinced that we can make a difference in the domain of esports as well”.

The Commissioner of ESIC, Mr. Ian Smith, will be one of the speakers involved at our upcoming ESI London (18-20th September).

Smith had this to add on this latest ESIC agreement: “ESIC being the main integrity player in the field of esports is pleased to welcome GLMS into its network of partners.

“GLMS, thanks to its experience on monitoring betting patterns, as well as its global operations with hubs in Copenhagen and Hong Kong will for sure be a great asset in the pursuit of our mission. The expertise of GLMS in managing intelligence and integrity matters as well as its local presence in almost 30 countries across the world will also help us enhance our education and prevention activities”.

According to the release, GLMS and ESIC have already enjoyed a fruitful unofficial cooperation and exchange of information over the past years.

In addition to the close monitoring of betting patterns, the two parties have also agreed to work together on the development of relevant educational programmes to raise awareness about risks related to betting on esports globally.

ESIC members now include the likes of ESL, DreamHack, Betway, Sportradar, Unikrn, the UKGC, MGA, LVP, Intel, Rivalry and more. There are 27 members of GLMS right now spanning four continents including lotteries such as La Française Des Jeux, Sisal, Lottomatica, Danske Spil, China Sports Lottery and many more.

Esports Insider says: Another solid partnership for ESIC then in a deal that is sure to strengthen both themselves and the GLMS as the two work even closer together in an official arrangement, the noble aim being to properly monitor betting patterns in esports and do their best to uphold integrity standards.
