ESL Special Projects Manager joins Luckbox as Director of Esports

Esports betting startup Luckbox has appointed Sujoy Roy, formerly of ESL, as its Director of Esports.

Sujoy Roy, Luckbox

Roy has extensive experience in the industry and joins the new bookmaker after working as Special Projects Manager at ESL.

Roy was the UK’s first professional gamer and has played a significant role in the growth of esports from the ground up, having worked on event organisation, community creation and organisation management.

Luckbox was founded by former PokerStars colleagues Lars Lien (Luckbox CEO) and Mike Stevens, and is due to launch later this year. Roy becomes the second big esports name to join the Luckbox ranks after Paul ‘Redeye’ Chaloner was named advisor and ambassador back in February.

Roy’s role will be to strengthen Luckbox’s esports connections, which will include working on partnerships within the sector (so watch this space). He’ll also be in charge of ‘fostering grassroots communities and raising the company profile’.

Roy had this to say on joining Luckbox: “I’ve seen so many companies try to do esports and make a mess of it. I want to help Luckbox avoid the common pitfalls and make a product that works as part of the esports infrastructure. It’s important to understand how and why people watch or play games.

“If Luckbox can create a great betting platform and do it sympathetically with  the community it could be a big help to the industry.”

Whilst Roy himself will be based in London, Luckbox as a company is based over in the Isle of Man.

Roy continued: “A mutual friend from PokerStars told me about  Luckbox and the management team behind it. When I found out more about the company I was excited about the way Luckbox was going about esports betting. Betting can massively enhance the viewer experience and has a big part to play in the future of esports but it needs to be done properly.

“Luckbox’s commitment to doing things right is not only essential to the business but, I believe, will also benefit the wider esports landscape long-term.”

Vadim Soloveychik, CMO at Luckbox, said: “We are excited to welcome Sujoy at Luckbox.

“His deep knowledge of the industry and community will play a big role in helping us to deliver authentic experience for esport fans and become preferred esports betting platform.”

Esports Insider says: Luckbox continue to show they mean business with the recruitment of Mr. Sujoy Roy as their Director of Esports. A man with a formidable esports resume; he’s sure to add a tonne of experience, knowledge, know how and passion to his new role and ensure Luckbox make a real splash in the esports betting space. With Redeye onboard as ambassador too, we can’t wait to see what they get up to.

Luckbox CEO Lars Lien will be amongst the many speakers at ESI London, 18-20th September
