The Singapore-based live streaming platform company announced the rebranding of Solid Gaming under its own name, NEXPLAY in late October, 2018 .

The new team made a debut at the 2018 Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit in Mall of Asia Convention Center showing a promising start after emerging as winner in the Mobile Legends open tournament few days after the announcement.

Dubbed as “The Rising Star” in mobile gaming, Solid Gaming is not entirely new to the esports scene. Formed in February 2017, they have been one of the earliest teams in Mobile Legends, with several local and regional championships, led by then team captain Jann Karlo “Liftlift” Rapanut, who is now the coach of NEXPLAY.

They placed first in Smart Mobile  Gaming League, Conqueror’s Cup Season 1, Kaipock, Zeus TV League Season 1, and EpicComeback Tournament, Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup (MSC)- Philippines 2017 and competed as finalists in major tournaments such as Gamecon, Pinoy Gaming Festival (PGF) 2017, Mobile Philippines Cup (MPC) Season 1.

The team rose to popularity during the PGF in April 2017. While only finishing second, they started gaining grounds for their high skill playstyle and aggressive gameplays. In mid-2017, the team decided to form a second squad named Solid Gaming Omega, with the original roster renamed to Solid Gaming Alpha. Both squads successfully qualified as finalists for the first season of MSC- Philippines. Solid Gaming Alpha claimed the regional championship in an outstanding 3-1 record and went on to compete in the MSC Grand Finals in Jakarta, Indonesia in September 2017. Solid Gaming Alpha placed third and took home 100,000$ cash prize. After MSC, they continued to show strong performance in different tournaments.

In the fourth quarter of 2017, Solid Gaming Alpha qualified for the premiere season of MPC but was booted out by then Obs Gaming (now Execration) who was crowned champion in the tournament. After Aljhon and Josef announced retirement from the game and some members of Solid Gaming decided to take a break, the remaining Solid Gaming Alpha and Solid Gaming Omega members teamed up in the succeeding tournaments until the second quarter of 2018 when the team finally reorganized. The Solid Gaming Alpha members Liftlift, Espes, MB, Kram are joined by Solid Gaming Omega team captain MRVii and members Sungit and Tan, and Xchan from Je t’aime.

“There are some people who think that Solid Gaming has lost its spark due to being on and off in the mobile esports. But with the refueled dedication to the development of the gaming culture and community in the country, we will continue the legacy. NEXPLAY is not a comeback, it is only a homecoming,” team manager Freniel Mikko “Frei” Austria shares.

In May 2018, they were invited to represent Philippines in the Mobile Star League Southeast Asia. The team slowly regained to mark their presence in esports again after winning first and second in SM Rosario Supreme Esports Brawl and SM Cabanatuan Cyber Month. The team also qualified for the Imus Esports League Match. The team went on to win the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Liga tournament, for which viewers can view the highlights here.
