Activision Blizzard has announced the promotion of Jon Spector to the position of Vice President of Business Operations and Product Strategy, Overwatch Esports.
Jon previously held the position of Senior Director for the Overwatch League, the premier professional esports league for Overwatch.
According to The Esports Observer, Jon, one of the first three employees to work on the Overwatch League, will continue managing the league’s day-to-day operations in addition to leading both the team business operations and franchise strategy teams. He will also be responsible for overseeing Overwatch League rules, governance, tournament structure, play formats, and delivery platforms.
Jon joined Blizzard in March 2017. After graduating from Browns University with a degree in Economics & Political Science, he spent 3 years at the Boston Consulting Group and over 3 years working at the National Basketball Association (NBA), first as a Manager of Team Marketing and Business Operations, and then as a Senior Manager of Global Strategy.
Last week, Activision Blizzard announced a multi-year deal with Google which will see the Overwatch League—as well as the Call of Duty League and Hearthstone esports—broadcast exclusively on YouTube.
Esports Insider: Jon Spector’s new role will see him shoulder a huge amount of responsibility as the Overwatch League enters its third season. With the league’s broadcast talent seeing some high-profile departures in recent weeks, a strong start to 2020 will be vital for OWL to retain stakeholder confidence.
