Thanks to the funding raised, the organisation is said to expand its lifestyle value offering alongside expansion into new countries and competitive titles.

Sean Zhang, CEO and Co-founder of Talon Esports, spoke on the raise in a release: “Since being founded in 2017 we have seen Talon grow from competing in local competitions to making it onto biggest stage of esports: the League of Legends World Championship.

“We can’t afford to slow down and with the seed funding we will look to enter new markets and explore lifestyle and fashion opportunities and build a brand that pushes the boundaries of performance and imagination.”

In June, Talon Esports joined forces with the esports arm of French football club Paris Saint-Germain. The deal saw the formation of the PSG Talon League of Legends team, which successfully qualified for the 2020 World Championship.

Jason Park, Head of Principal Investments at Widus Partners, commented: “Talon’s cross border aspirations in Asia mirror our own goals of breaking down borders and cross-pollinating innovation across markets. We look forward to working closely with Talon’s experienced management team by not only investing, but also providing strategic value to help foster Talon’s ambition of becoming the number one esports franchise in Asia.”

Esports Insider says: Thanks to this funding round, Talon Esports has a significant amount of capital to achieve its intended expansion in a number of areas. It’s raised its profile through the deal with PSG but we’ve no doubt it’ll be looking to further make a name for itself moving forward.
