Ubisoft, the developer behind Rainbow Six Siege, has today revealed its plan for Year 4. Within the roadmap, competitions in Milan, Valencia & Croatia feature as well as Montreal and the USA.
The next tournament on the calendar, following the conclusion of the Six Siege Invitational in Montreal this weekend will be Milan – a destination fairly new to esports. The Italian capital will play host to the Rainbow Six Pro League Season IX Finals on May 18th and 19th.
The historical Palazzo del Ghiacco will be the destination for the event, bringing fans to the historical ice rink which now is predominantly used as an events space. It will be the first time the venue has hosted an esports tournament.
Other notable news include iBuyPower running a minor in the USA and later, in December, an event heading to Croatia to be run by the company that are best known for running Dota PIT. Both tournament organisers have historically had technical difficulties aplenty, but one would hope they’re a thing of the past. Siege will also head to DreamHack Valencia and DreamHack Montreal throughout the year as the schedule becomes increasingly busy.
Other esports aspects for the year include any money over the $2,000,000 Six Invitational prize pool being kept, used and redistributed to support initiatives such as Minors & the Challenger League. Currently, the prize pool has eclipsed $2,500,000 meaning over $500,000 will be spread across other initiatives.
Esports Insider says: Rainbow Six Siege is the esport that continues to produce big numbers and grow impressively. Ubisoft, as a company, is continuing to support the scene in the correct manner and even has its eye on the grassroots and tier two scene – something oft forgotten and left to rot by publishers. 2019 could well be a very big, and exciting year for Siege esports.
