OverActive Media acquires esports events company MediaXP

OverActive Media, the parent company of Splyce and Toronto Defiant, has launched a live events production division following the acquisition of Toronto-based esports events company MediaXP.

MediaXP was founded in 2015 as an esports-specific live events company that worked with the likes of Dome Productions and Red Bull Canada.

The acquisition – and subsequent launch of OAM LIVE – sees Ken Silva, Founder of MediaXP join OverActive Media’s team in Toronto. Silva’s past experience includes posts as Director for ESL America, Director of Gaming and Esports for Red Bull Canada, and Commissioner for North American Star League.

Chris Overholt, President and CEO of OverActive Media discussed the new division in a release: “This is yet another step forward in our effort to build a world-leading, global esports platform that will redefine the future of sports and entertainment. The launch of OAM LIVE will progress our business growth by providing future partners, publishers and brands with an end-to-end solution for gaming events and esports broadcasts.”

OverActive Media announced a key hire in the form of Jason Toledano earlier this week. Other recent moves for the company include being confirmed for the upcoming franchised Call of Duty league and bringing in both David Grutman and The Weeknd as investors.

Esports Insider says: It seems like we’re now reporting on OverActive Media’s moves every week, clearly showing that it’s growing in a number of ways. It’ll be interesting to see what it does in the events space now this deal has been made, that’s realistically the only way in which it can be judged.
