The University of New Haven has established a partnership with gaming peripheral manufacturer HyperX.
HyperX will outfit the university’s forthcoming varsity esports program with its gaming peripherals and become an official sponsor of the team.
University of New Haven’s esports program is slated to begin competing in fall 2020 at the school’s newly-built Bergami Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Mark Leathem, General Manager of HyperX, spoke to joining University of New Haven’s esports program in a statement: “HyperX is glad to be working together with a university that sees the value of gaming and esports management skills. We see the benefits of education and experience, and the University can help develop new leaders in this expanding business segment.”
The university will allow six incoming students to be a part of its curriculum in esports management to work on an academic project at HyperX’s headquarters in Orange County, California. Students that participate in the project will be trained for elite product testing and “have the opportunity to develop a remote product testing center for HyperX.”
Brian T. Kench, Dean of the College of Business at the University of New Haven, also commented on the deal: “HyperX has opened its doors to the University of New Haven and is enabling students from our College of Business to have access to the company’s senior management to share their insights as gamers and students in the interdisciplinary field of esports and gaming. This academic access to interact with executives of a gaming leader is unique in the esports industry.”
Esports Insider says: High school and collegiate esports programs have been on the rise in recent months with a number of companies looking to get involved in the sector. University of New Haven’s partnership with HyperX is pioneering scholastic esports on so many levels and should be a role model for future budding programs.
