According to the press release, Laurie will use his experience to head the agency’s business-development arm, helping to deliver a ‘white-glove service’ of creative marketing for clients.

Heather Dower, Hotdrop Founder and CEO, said on the acquisition: “It’s been an incredible first year for the team here at Hotdrop, as a group we’ve gone from strength to strength and we cannot wait for Mark to join us. His experience and market knowledge will help us springboard into our next phase of development as an agency creating even more winning moments together with the industry.”

Hotdrop, founded in 2019, provides end-to-end solutions for tournament organisers, teams, publishers and brands wanting to engage with esports and gaming communities. So far the company has worked with organisations such as ESL UK, on the Rainbow Six Siege Premiership; Intel, for the student-focused esports initiative FutureGen; and UK esports organisation Endpoint, managing its public relations.

Regarding his new role, Laurie added: “I’m over the moon to be joining such a talented and well-respected team here at Hotdrop.

“What Heather and the team have achieved this year while navigating the pandemic is nothing short of amazing. It’s not every day you get to follow your passion, so getting to work directly within esports with some of the world’s most recognisable brands really is a dream come true.”

Esports Insider says: Headed by an experienced esports figure in Heather Dower, the acquisition of Mark Laurie, who himself has many years’ worth of relevant experience, may well bolster Hotdrop’s managerial team.
