Bookmaker Pinnacle has announced that its esports tournament, the Pinnacle Cup, will expand into Dota 2 for its second edition.

The event, in collaboration with tournament organiser Relog Media, will once again have a $100,000 prize pool and is expected to feature Dota 2 teams across Europe, Russia, and CIS.

Similarly to its CS:GO edition, GRID has been named the event’s data partner. As a result, Pinnacle will offer a selection of pre-game and live betting markets during the event. Moreover, GRID’s data is expected to be utilised throughout the Pinnacle Cup – Dota’s broadcast and fan-facing content.

Paris Smith, CEO of Pinnacle, commented: “After a fantastic start to the Pinnacle Cup, we are delighted to carry on this series with Relog Media, expanding further into the esports ecosystem. The heart of what we do at Pinnacle is engaging with the esports community, and with the introduction of The Pinnacle Cup – Dota we plan to deepen that connection with the wider esports audience.

“There is no better way for us to continue this journey, than branching out into Dota 2, where we can continue offering fans the best connection to their favourite esports teams and players.”

The Pinnacle Cup – Dota is scheduled to take place throughout the entirety of May and comprises a 10-team round-robin stage followed by a best-of-three double-elimination bracket. The round-robin stage will commence on May 5th, 2021.

During the playoffs, two teams will be invited to join the organisations that have qualified via the group stage.  According to the release, the playoffs will consist of quarter-finals, semi-finals and a best-of-five grand final, which will take place on May 30th.

Milutin Pecic, Relog Media CEO, added: “As passionate Dota 2 players at Relog Media, we’re ecstatic about our next tournament series with Pinnacle. We hope this is just the start of our offerings to the competitive teams across the globe. Pinnacle’s track record and success in Esports so far made it an easy decision for us to go forwards with them. We also had a ton of fun in the CSGO edition of The Pinnacle Cup. A proud day for us all here at Relog Media.

As of right now, no teams have been announced for the competition.

Esports Insider says: Following the success of the inaugural Pinnacle Cup, which was won by Gambit Esports, it’s no surprise to see the second edition be announced so soon. The event branching out into Dota is a welcome shock as it provides organisations in the discipline with more competition and increases potential revenue opportunities. Continuing to have Relog Media and GRID on board also looks to be a great decision.
