The project is created and led by businessman Fernando Marcondes de Mattos, the founder of Costão do Santinho, and Professor Carlos Alberto Schneider from the CERTI Foundation.

HubCG will feature an esports arena, gaming offices, and working spaces, and gaming offices which will be accessible to professionals, companies and institutions. The venue also will include a space available for projects related to education and game development.

According to the release, the space is estimated to accommodate around 240 professionals in its first year of operation.

Matos commented: “The games market is on the rise in Brazil and we believe that this will be the ideal space for all gamers in the country to meet, whether to play, compete or develop games.”

Our goal is to put Florianópolis on the gaming map and transform HubCG into a reference centre for the sector within five years.”

The HubCG estimates that the project will reach, in 2026, more than R$700m (~£95.84m) in revenues and attract international investments to the region.

The focus on esports will be reinforced by the creation of a specific HubCG esports organisation that will play in competitive matches. The pro players will be selected through the creation of a reality show. Moreover, the organisation will also focus on content creation and working with influencers within the county.

Esports Insider says: São Paulo dominates the gaming scene in Brazil. With Riot Games, Ubisoft, and Garena being in the city, Esports tournaments always tend to be held at São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro due to the close distance. Having Santa Catarina hold an esports venue helps expand the market to other horizons besides the two States.
