Game developer Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts (EA) have announced plans to sunset Apex Legends Mobile.

The two parties stated despite a strong start, the ‘content pipeline’ for the mobile game ‘has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence.’

On January 31st, Respawn Entertainment disabled all real money in-app purchases in addition to announcing May 1st will be the day the game is no longer playable across the world.

As for the ambitions of Apex Legends Mobile esports, numerous tournament organisers will no longer host competitions using the title. Instead, the likes of the Esports Gaming League (EGL) will continue hosting tournaments on Apex Legends for PC and consoles.

Despite Apex Legends Mobile sunsetting, the game’s main variant appears to be continuing to develop, particularly from an esports perspective. The Apex Legends Global Series (AGLS) continues to operate as the battle royale’s premier competitive circuit. From February 2nd to the 5th, 40 teams will compete in the Split 1 Playoffs at London’s Copper Box Arena for a chance to win a share of a $1m (~£811,370) prize pool.

Prior to the Playoffs, the ALGS Split 1 Pro Leagues concluded across EMEA and North America. The leagues garnered peak viewership of 87,800 and 162,300.

Initially released in May 2022, Apex Legends Mobile has failed to last 12 months before deciding to sunset the game. Respawn Entertainment has claimed that the Apex Legends team ‘remain excited about mobile as a platform’, suggesting future mobile projects could arrive in the future.

ESI Ranking System
We’ve created a ranking system to help you quickly know how good each gambling platform is. As gamblers ourselves, we know which factors matter most to you, so we follow a best-in-class methodology to test each one with no stone unturned. Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
