Game developer and esports tournament organiser Riot Games has partnered with nonprofit organisation 1,000 Dreams Fund (1DF) to create an esports-focused cadetship.
The cadetship will aim to provide opportunities for women interested in working in esports broadcast and production. The official name of the project is the Riot Games Esports Broadcasting Cadetship.
Launched in 2016, 1DF is a nonprofit organisation that seeks to empower and help women with scholarships, mentorship and other resources that can assist them in finding quality careers. According to a release, 1,000 Dreams Fund has granted more than $775,000 (~£630,000) in funding across the United States. The organisation has worked with the likes of Twitch, Allied Esports, JBL and HyperX on various projects in the esports and gaming industries.
The new project is a part of 1DF’s BroadcastHER initiative that focuses on helping women find career paths in the esports and gaming industries. The Cadetship will focus on Riot Games’ Remote Broadcast Center (RBC) in Dublin, Ireland, a high-tech esports broadcast facility for Riot’s broadcasting efforts.
The programme will start in early October and consists of four Masterclasses, followed by an application process for the Broadcasting Cadetship. The two selected applicants will receive a paid three-month-long internship at the Remote Broadcast Center, as well as travel expenses, accommodation funding, and several other benefits to kickstart their broadcast careers. In order to get a chance for the internship, one must sign up and attend at least one of the four Masterclasses.
Allyson Gormley, Global Operations Director of Riot Games’ Broadcast Centres, commented on the collaboration: “Cultivating diversity isn’t just a choice; it’s our obligation to the future of the esports industry.
“I am excited for our partnership with 1000 Dreams Fund and for the launch of our new cadetship program, where we hope to cultivate new talent that grows into roles within the esports broadcast production industry.”
