Energy drinks and esports go together like eggs and bacon so news that the latest team sponsor is 5 Hour Energy will come as no surprise.

The American company has signed a deal in which it will sponsor Detroit Renegades, better known to the masses as the team that NBA player Jonas Jerebko acquired.

5 Hour Energy has seemingly become a major sponsor too with the revelation that the branding will permeate as far as into the Renegades’ Overwatch roster’s name.

In a press release on Saturday Jerebko stated: “This sponsorship by the makers of 5-hour Energy shots epitomizes our shared values of hard work, innovative marketing, and efficient operations. As our first non-endemic sponsor, being headquartered in Michigan encourages a beneficial relationship to support our organization and players directly.”

Renegades’ Overwatch team is itself brand new and was announced in the first few days on January. It consists of Liam “Mangachu” Campbell, Ricky “manOFsnow” Felty, Christopher “J3sus” Pavloff, Preston “Juv3nile” Dornon, Jonathon “Sherlockey” Davis and Jeremy “Jer” Santacruz. Since Jerebko’s acquisition Renegades have entered Super Smash Bros. and Call of Duty in addition to Overwatch.

Esports Insider says: Being based in the UK we have no opinion on 5 hour Energy as a product but another day, another dollar in esports sponsorships as the non-endemics roll in before January is even in double digits.

We’ve created a ranking system to help you quickly know how good each gambling platform is. As gamblers ourselves, we know which factors matter most to you, so we follow a best-in-class methodology to test each one with no stone unturned. Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
