The Dutch Premier League, Eredivisie, is launching a new FIFA league: the E-Divisie. It will see each of the 18 Eredivisie clubs virtually compete for a championship in FIFA 17 Ultimate Team.
As revealed in their launch article on the Eredivisie website here, the E-Divisie is an initiative of the Eredivisie CV and is being launched in association with all 18 clubs, EA Sports and Endemol Shine Nederland. The competition will get underway on 6 February, whilst the official launch will be held on 1 February.
Alex Tielbeke, director of Eredivisie CV was quoted in the release as saying: “”In the Eredivisie we have been working to set up an official eSports competition in the Netherlands for some time […] We are thrilled that we can now organise it together with EA SPORTS and Endemol. We see the E-Divisie as an extension to the existing range of football we offer, in which we can focus even more on young people. For the clubs it is a fantastic platform for increasing the fans’ involvement and jointly generating new content. Moreover, in time the E-Divisie will create an even greater experience of Eredivisie football in a stadium.”
The winner of the tournament will progress to the world championships, where they will compete against the best of the rest.
Esports Insider says: Another new entry to FIFA from a football league. Hopefully there’s enough high level FIFA players to fill the glut of clubs and competition now around for the gateway esport. It’s going to be a busy year for FIFA, that’s for sure.
