With the NBA, the NFL and football clubs getting involved in esports in a number of different capacities, it was only a matter of time before baseball followed suit.

Trevor May, a pitcher for the Minnesota Twins baseball team, has joined Luminosity as an Official Brand Ambassador. May has already been streaming on Twitch and collected over 4,500 followers. He’s been playing a lot of Overwatch and his stream will now include branding from the North American org.

Luminosity owner Steve Maida commented: “There is so much we can learn from the world of traditional sports. I hope that Trevor can pass on some of his experience to our players and management.”

The organisation currently has rosters in League of Legends, CS:GO, Overwatch, SMITE, CoD, Hearthstone and World of Warcraft.

The next move for this deal is expected to be that May will acquire a stake in Luminosity. As reported by Dot Esports, Maida told the publication that May’s official role is that of a “brand ambassador” but that discussions are also ongoing over May potentially obtaining a financial stake in the Luminosity organisation.

Esports Insider says: Trevor May clearly loves gaming and so makes for a natural crossover as a team co-owner. More and more sportsmen appear to be looking to esports to live out their dream of owning a team, and Luminosity is a solid choice for the pitcher.
