In a match made in heaven between two capitalisation loving entities, it has been announced that ELEAGUE has teamed up GEICO for a new amateur tournament series. This will kick off with FGC mainstay Street Fighter.

This will be titled the GEICO ELEAGUE Amateur Series, and will take place in September (1-4) at PAX West in Seattle. The tournament will feature Street Fighter V and will be live streamed through both ELEAGUE’s and insurance company GEICO’s Twitch channels.

Vince Giampietro, Senior Marketing Manager for GEICO commented: “The Fighting Game Community has grown by leaps and bounds into one of the most engaging and passionate fan bases in all of esports.

“From Day 1, we’ve made it our goal to support the gaming community and we are excited to strengthen our relationship with Turner Sports in this new endeavor.”

The tournament will have three online qualifiers through which the top 16 players can qualify for PAX West, and another 16 players will be able to qualify on-site. The 32 players will then enter a playoff bracket to determine a final winner. The press release confirmed that ‘more details regarding the prizing, production, and talent will be released in the future’.

Esports Insider says: At a number of esports industry conferences in the past twelve months it has been reiterated that brands are missing a trick by not focusing on the grassroots. It seems GEICO have listened to this advice, and we look forward to this series and which other titles they pick. The partnership with ELEAGUE should ensure some good exposure and viewership too.
