Captain Draft 4.0 will take place at the DC Armory between the 4th and 7th January 2018 and thus far will be the only open-to-public Dota 2 minor to take place in the United States in 2018. Captain’s Draft 4.0 will also be the only Dota 2 pro-circuit tournament that isn’t played in Captain’s Mode – the traditional game mode on which professional Dota is played. Instead, the hero pool is randomised and limited for each game thus bringing a unique tournament for viewers.

The tournament will welcome eight top Dota 2 teams who will fight it out for their share of $300,000 in prize money. $150,000 is fronted by Moonduck with the other $150,000 provided by Valve as per the reworked pro circuit this year.

“In partnership with Moonduck Studios, we’re thrilled to host this significant Dota 2 tournament, Captains Draft 4.0 at the DC Armory, currently the only East Coast Dota Minor event scheduled for 2018.  Our commitment to esports is being realized by collaborating with Moonduck and Valve to host this important event and in choosing Washington, DC – as we continue to raise the profile of the esports community here in our nation’s capital,” said Max Brown, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Events DC

He added: “We plan to stay in forefront of esports opportunities like these, whether at Events DC managed properties or other venues across the District to highlight the city as a future destination for esports and to act as a catalyst for DC’s economic growth and ongoing visitor and entertainment attraction.”

Shannon ‘SUNSfan’ Scotten commented: “Everyone at Moonduck is extremely excited to announce the Captains Draft 4.0 Minor, and our partnership with EventsDC to put on this amazing event. The opportunity for us to hold a Dota 2 Minor in DC wouldn’t be possible without their help and expertise, and we look forward to working with them to bring even more Dota 2 events to the East Coast. Moonduck Studios can’t wait to bring Captains Draft to the big stage in January, and to give fans of Dota 2 and esports great games, coverage, and content, with a few surprises along the way,”

Esports Insider says: Dota tournaments on the East Coast of the States are few and far between. The community embrace Captain’s Draft as it provides something a tad different from “normal” Dota and Moonduck are an innovative, fun studio. Congrats to Events DC who have been gradually ramping up their esports efforts over the last year.
