As reported by Dexerto’s Spanish arm, San Miguel has entered into a partnership with Team Heretics

This is huge news for Team Heretics and big news for esports generally as another major brand enters the space. Understandably San Miguel has chosen to partner with a native club, and it’s something of a coup for Heretics who are one of Spain’s newer orgs. They currently have teams across League of Legends, CS:GO, Clash Royale and Call of Duty.

Other sponsors include betting operator PVP.ME, KontrolFreek, GFUEL, Burn Controllers and sunglasses brand After.

With respect to the agreement, San Miguel Marketing Director Miguel Cabrero stated: “In our eagerness to explore, San Miguel is introduced in this new territory as a pioneer beer brand to capitalise on esports and to spread, in this way, the enjoyment of exploration and sharing.”

Team Heretics Co-Owner David “The Grefg” Cánovas noted: “Today, Heretics open a new chapter in their brief but intense history. Getting support of such a high calibre firm as San Miguel is a huge boost for our project and we have no doubt that this will be a determining factor in the future that lies ahead.”

Esports Insider says: To our knowledge this is the first major beer brand sponsoring an esports team. We’ve seen Bud Light make moves in the space via their All-Stars program but it’s pleasing to see San Miguel support a team, and we expect more to follow suit. If Man City are partnered with both Heineken and Carlsberg and Arsenal with both Singha and Star Beer, then why not Fnatic and OpTic too? Best of luck to Team Heretics moving forward!
