NBA 2K team Grizz Gaming sponsored by America’s Navy

Grizz Gaming, the esports team of the Memphis Grizzlies, has acquired a new sponsor ahead of the NBA 2K League: it’s none other than America’s Navy. The offshoot of the United States Military will act as the presenting partner for the team in the inaugural season of the league.

Under this partnership, America’s Navy will have its brand placed on both the player’s jerseys and on their uniforms, and it will be incorporated into Grizz Gaming’s website and digital content. It also holds the naming rights to the practice facility of the players.

Captain Dave Bouve, Chief Marketing Officer, America’s Navy said the following in a statement: “I think the Navy and Grizz Gaming, along with the entire esports concept, is a great fit. One of the important things we have done is shift away from many of the traditional media channels and delve more into the digital realm, and esports is a very natural extension of that. The ability to partner with Grizz Gaming, located right here in Memphis, and be a part of a community building a new sporting event from the ground up is a very exciting opportunity.”

Lang Whitaker, General Manager, Grizz Gaming also commented: “All of us at Grizz Gaming are thrilled to partner with America’s Navy. As the grandson of a Navy veteran, I was raised to understand the importance of teamwork, courage, honor and respect, and these are all values we want our Grizz Gaming squad to reflect.”

Esports Insider says: The Navy’s involvement in the NBA 2K League is somewhat of a surprising addition, but it’s also a welcome one. The league is a bit of gamble in terms of the game not being tested too heavily in an ultra-competitive capacity, but it’s certainly attracting the right companies.
