United Arab Emirates pizza chain Freedom Pizza has entered a partnership with Dubai-based online tournament platform GEEM.
The result of this deal will see esports promoted in the UAE and will allow Freedom Pizza to engage with GEEM’s audience.
GEEM is known for hosting online tournaments on a daily basis, some with a prize pool and others without. The platform is set to launch out of beta later this week – on September 26th – and accommodates a number of titles. When the platform is in full motion, it will expand to offer Fortnite and League of Legends, as well as FIFA.
Charles Wright, Founder of GEEM discussed the partnership in a statement: “We are delighted to be able to collaborate with Freedom Pizza. Esports has become the entertainment of choice for brands looking to connect with young adult consumers, across the globe. Therefore for Freedom, to become the first non-endemic brand to enter the space in the region, shows how progressive they are as a business. It was an easy choice for us when mapping out who we potentially wanted to partner with.
“Freedom’s brand identity, first class digital operations and driven by a great team of innovators, it’s a hugely exciting time for esports in the UAE. It is exciting, it is growing and it is full of opportunity. We look forward to working with FREEDOM to create new and innovative ways to bring even more excitement and interest to GEEM and esports in the UAE.
GEEM joined the Esports Integrity Coalition in February, sitting alongside tournament organisers UMG and LVP. Other companies that are a part of the association include ESL, DreamHack, Intel, and Betway. ESIC is a global not-for-profit organisation that aims to deal with the threat of match manipulation and betting fraud in esports.
A representative for Freedom Pizza also commented: “Freedom Pizza is thrilled to team up with GEEM for their forthcoming Fortnite tournaments. As a locally owned ‘made in the UAE’ business, we recognize the importance of supporting other local start-ups within our community. Partnering with a company like GEEM generates a lot of intrigue particularly when you see the the popularity of esports globally. We are excited to see GEEM lead the way for esports in the UAE.”
Esports Insider says: Another non-endemic company getting involved with the industry is nearly always great, especially when it’s in an underdeveloped area such as the UAE. While details of the partnership aren’t too explanatory, we applaud the effort and hope the partnership proves fruitful & long-standing.
