Mobile gaming company Tonk Tonk Games has announced that it has raised $2 million (£1.54 million) in seed funding.
The round was led by BITKRAFT Esports Ventures and included contribution from Modern Times Group (MTG).
Joon Kim, Founder of Tonk Tonk Games discussed the funding in a statement: “We are incredibly excited about our partnership with BITKRAFT Esports Ventures and Modern Times Group. Our vision is to give players delightful social experiences via networked play. Through financial backing and strategic partnerships, we will be able to attract top talent to our evolving team and craft an ambitious version of our first accessible mobile fighting game – uFighter.”
Tonk Tonk Games will use the funding to aid in its global growth by scaling its workforce and establishing its headquarters in Austin, Texas. It houses former employees of game and animation companies such as EA, Disney, and Pixar.
Jens Hilgers, Founder and Managing Partner of BITKRAFT also commented: “We are deeply impressed with Tonk Tonk’s culture and their emotionally resonant, proprietary personalized facial animation technology, which make them a clear stand-out in the massive mobile games market. uFighter is offering adrenalizing synchronous multiplayer matches and will ignite new excitement for the Fighting Game genre which we feel still craves for an iconic and innovative IP on mobile.”
BITKRAFT is an early stage investor that specialises in esports. It’s currently involved with DOJO Madness, Epics.gg, H4X, The Story Mob, and many other companies in the industry.
Esports Insider says: BITKRAFT is involved with a number of interesting and unique companies in the esports space so we see this seed funding as a vote of confidence in the corner of Tonk Tonk Games. MTG’s esports portfolio includes both ESL and DreamHack so it has plenty of experience in the industry, too. Good on you, Tonk Tonk!
