University Campus of Football Business (UCFB) recently announced a FIFA tournament for students undertaking courses at the football and sports-focused university. Students from both the Manchester and London campuses are competing for the chance to be crowned UCFB eSports champion and a £1,000 prize.
Students will go head-to-head on the popular video game to determine a champion from each campus before the two winners face off in the hope of being named the inaugural UCFB FIFA champion. The first leg of the competition took place on March 20th, with tournaments at the Etihad Campus and UCFB Wembley to declare their respective FIFA champions. The deciding match is set to take place on March 27th at UCFB Wembley.
The events at both campuses are being run and supplied by experienced esports event company Player 1, the masterminds behind the likes of Insomnia Gaming Festival and Minecon. The event will also showcase more UCFB talent through the commentary of students Brandon Smith and Richard Buckley who will be covering broadcasted matches over the two days. The duo has a host of experience in covering professional FIFA and are staples for this year’s global series.

Esports Insider says: This tournament is another step for UCFB into the esports scene following their recent hosting of Esports Insider’s Spring Forum at the Etihad Campus on March 22nd. FIFA is fast becoming a gateway for broader consumers and non-endemic brands to dip their toes in the esports water. Hosting a tournament at this level is a good way to engage a large player and consumer base in university students. For UCFB itself, it is part of their broader support of esports opportunities, including the support of commentators and student research.
