Canada’s largest esports organisation, Luminosity Gaming, has recently announced the appointment of Mark Thomas as their new Vice President, Head of Marketing.
Thomas brings a wealth of marketing and communications experience to the role, most recently as the lead of CBC/Radio-Canada‘s Sports Partnerships team. With the hire, Luminosity aims to ramp up its presence on the global stage, both through team success and world-class partnerships. Luminosity already has major partnerships with the likes of Universal Music Canada, SCUF Gaming, and META Threads.
Steve Maida, President of Luminosity Gaming was very pleased to welcome Mark to the team, “Luminosity’s mission is to continue to build the biggest and most successful esports franchise in the world. A huge part of that is reaching both traditional and new esports audiences with the Luminosity brand, while also building innovative partnerships with brands that share our vision. Mark’s unique skillset is key to that, and is the first step in creating a team of innovators and creators.”
The appointment also comes following the huge success of Luminosity’s Overwatch League side, Vancouver Titans, as well as a big Call of Duty World League (CWL) win. Maida continued, noting that, “Thomas’ arrival comes amidst growth and success for the franchise. The Vancouver Titans, managed by Luminosity, and in partnership with Canucks Sports & Entertainment, were recently crowned Stage 1 Overwatch League Champions, after going undefeated with a Stage 1 record of 7-0. Luminosity Gaming were also crowned champions of the Call of Duty World League open event in Fort Worth, Texas last month, with a prize pool of $325,000” (~£249,000). In addition to their OWL and Call of Duty sides, Luminosity also have teams competing in CS:GO, Fortnite, SMITE, and Madden19.
Esports Insider says: Looks to be a very good hire for Luminosity Gaming, and at the right time too with their big OWL and CWL wins. The biggest thing to boost your brand is to win games and win tournaments, so making a concerted push and striking while the iron is hot can only be a good thing. We should be sure to keep an eye on Luminosity’s business moves in the coming months.
