PUBG Corp. has chosen Asian event organiser MET Events to host the third and final PUBG Classic tournament of the 2019 season.
The MET Asia Series: PUBG Classic will see 16 teams from five competitive regions – China, Korea, Southeast Asia, Japan, and Chinese Taipei/Hong Kong/Macau – compete in Bangkok, Thailand for $300,000 (£237,273) on July 26-28th.
Jérôme Coupez, Head of Marketing at MET Events discussed the event in a release: “MET Asia Series will be the largest esports tournament in Thailand to date, and we’re honoured to partner with PUBG Corporation to organize one of the most prestigious battle royal esports competition, showcasing the finest talents of Asia. We’re looking to make this event unforgettable and offer the players and the fans the ultimate experience by paying tribute to the country which has one of the richest cultures in the world.”
The FACEIT Global Series: PUBG Classic was the first event in the series, hosted in London, UK over April 16th-21st. Teams from all nine regions in the PUBG esports circuit gathered to compete for a total prize purse of $400,000 (£316,364).
The second in the series is the GLL Grand Slam: PUBG Classic, an event that will also be hosted in July. G-Loot partnered with PUBG Corp. for the multi-regional tournament, allowing rosters from North America, Europe, Oceania, and Latin America to qualify and battle it out for $300,000 (£237,273).
Jake Sin, Director of Esports for PUBG Corporation added: “By partnering with MET Events, who has the right operational experience and talent, we’re confident that local and global fans will be in for a fantastic show.”
Esports Insider says: It’s an interesting approach to split regions between the next two PUBG Classics considering the first was ‘global’ in nature, including all of PUBG’s supported regions. Viewership is a factor we’re interested in when it comes to PUBG esports so we’re interested to see how GLL and MET stack up against each other in July.
