Chris Overholt, President and CEO of OverActive Media discussed the announcement in a release: “This is yet another significant moment for our global esports and entertainment organization, as we continue to put Toronto on the esports map. We know that there is an established crossover audience between Call of Duty fans and traditional sports, and that is in large part, why we are so proud to be calling the former Maple Leaf Gardens our home for the upcoming season.”

Offering a capacity of 3,850, the venue is located in northwest Toronto and will play host to Toronto Ultra’s home series events on March 21st-22nd and July 18-19th. Both weekends will feature player autograph sessions and partner activations.

In October, Esports Insider spoke with Overholt about the franchise’s branding, being the only Canadian team in the league, and franchising in esports. When discussing the brand, he explained that “there’s a lot of pseudo-seriousness to this title in particular, but what our fans told us consistently was that this is what they do for fun. So, as a brand, what we’ve tried to do is land on that nicely.”

Esports Insider says: OverActive Media has found a venue with plenty of potential to host a spectacular Call of Duty event, though the proof is in the pudding so we’ll have to wait and see how things turn out.
