Farming Simulator League studio sprouts up in Germany

GIANTS Software has established a new production studio in Erlangen, Germany, which will be used to broadcast Farming Simulator League competitions.

The studio will also host Farming Simulator League competitions as needed, given expectations of gaming and esports events being canceled due to coronavirus (COVID-19) fears.

According to a release from the company, “Farming Simulator League tournaments will be held at big events with steadily increasing audiences as soon as possible.”

Lars Malcharek, League Coordinator at GIANTS Software, commented: “Until then, FSL tournaments will be held in our large, newly-built production studio in Erlangen, Germany. The online tournaments will be held as planned. We are looking forward to many more years of FSL together with all of you.”

This past weekend, the Farming Simulator League held its most recent competition at Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Katowice without a live audience. The tournament was a side event at the annual Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) competition, but ESL announced on Thursday that the arena had been “closed to the public by the Polish Gouverneur of Silesia hours before its door opening” due to concerns over coronavirus. All tournaments at IEM Katowice were played as planned without fans in the venue.

The Farming Simulator League will conclude its debut season on July 18-19th at Farmcon 20 at Deutz-Fahr Arena in Lauingen, Germany. The €100,000 (£87,144) championship will feature the teams that have earned the most points during the season, including Trelleborg Wheel Systems, which has won seven events so far and clinched the top seed.

Esports Insider says: The Farming Simulator League has thus far piggybacked on major events such as Gamescom and DreamHack Leipzig, but coronavirus fears could stymie that approach. This studio gives GIANTS a backup plan while setting the league up for a long-term future.
