With almost 20 years of experience in software development, Rios has spent most of his career leading product development at the likes of Yahoo! and Ooyala. At Mission Control, he will lead the product team and have oversight on the development of the company’s platform.

Rios spoke on the venture in a release: “Joining the Mission Control team is a unique opportunity for me to connect my passion for gaming, sports, and software development. With esports growing and changing at such a rapid pace, there’s a real chance to create truly innovative technology through immersive experiences, and I’m excited to join this group of talented and creative individuals to do just that.”

As Mission Control gears up for the next full version release of its platform in autumn of this year, Rios will “be responsible for growing his development team in the months to come,” according to a release.

Austin Smith, CEO and Co-founder of Mission Control, also commented: “Abel’s experience and attitude speaks for itself. He is a creative engineer & playful gamer that is driven to succeed, a perfect fit for our team and culture. We are incredibly excited for him to lead our product team.”

Esports Insider says: Mission Control has an exciting premise and securing Rios as the product lead is a significant step in the company’s development. We’re intrigued to see the team he puts together in the near future and how the platform shapes up later in the year.
