British organisation Excel Esports has announced the departure of one of its co-founders, Joel Holmes-Darby.
Holmes-Darby became the organisation’s Chief People Officer when Wouter Sleijffers and Robin McCammon were brought in as CEO and CCO, respectively, last January.

No reasoning for the departure has been named, though a tweet from Holmes-Darby explained that “it came to an end prematurely.” It appears as if his brother, Co-founder and Chief People Officer Kieran Holmes-Darby, will remain at the organisation for the foreseeable future.
Holmes-Darby commented on his departure from the organisation: “After an exciting journey, I confirm my departure from Excel Esports. I am very proud of everything we have accomplished at Excel during the last six years. Starting a company with my brother Kieran and watching it grow from a bedroom hobby to a multi-million pound organisation is an experience I feel lucky and privileged to have lived through. Along the way I have made many great friends and worked with some incredible people, and there are many milestones and achievements I am deeply proud of.
“The trajectory of the brand is extremely positive and I look forward to seeing how things progress and unfold over the coming years. In the meantime, I will be continuing to support everyone at Excel Esports as they strive to achieve the highly ambitious goals we have set for the company. I am proactively seeking new opportunities for the future and am excited for whatever the next challenge may be.”

Excel Esports was founded in December 2014 by the Holmes-Darby brothers. It truly made a name for itself on an international basis once it was accepted as one of 10 long-term partners in Riot Games’ European LEC in 2018.
Sleijffers also spoke on the personnel change: “Excel has gone through an incredible journey over the last six years and so much has been achieved. We would not be where we are now without Joel’s leadership. As we embark on the next phase of Excel’s growth, we want to thank Joel for his continued support. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Esports Insider says: With the new leadership, upcoming rumoured changes, and this personnel change, it’s clear that we’re entering a new era of Excel Esports. Joel undoubtedly had a big hand in moulding the organisation into what it is today and that will be remembered moving forward.
