Thanks to the preview event hosted by Marvel Rivals, we have official information on the new heroes’ abilities. Emma Frost will debut in Season 2: Hellfire Gala as a three-star difficulty character.

All descriptions are official in-game details, however, these may be subject to change with the official launch of Season 2.

Will Emma Frost Be Viable in Marvel Rivals Esports?

Emma Frost’s barrier elevates her above others as they currently stand, such as Peni Parker, Thor and Hulk. Throughout the seasons, having a barrier Vanguard has become necessary for most compositions, especially in high-stakes events such as the Marvel Rivals Invitationals. But how will Emma Frost fit into the current meta?

We know that Emma’s Mind’s Aegis has 500 health, much weaker than Dr Strange’s 800 health shield. Not to mention that Magneto has Bulwark, which can make himself or an ally immune to CC and damage. Both tanks saw regular play in the Marvel Rivals Fight Night events, for good reason.

With that role filled, her value may instead be fulfilling an off-tank role similar to Venom or The Thing. Her Diamond Form allows her to single out targets for her team to focus on, thanks to Carbon Crush and Crystal Kick, offering similar utility as Winter Soldier and Wolverine.

Though arguably her most interesting ability is Psionic Seduction, which is designed to prevent other ultimate’s from being used. This could be crucial against top picks such as Luna Snow, Cloak & Dagger, and Mantis by removing any defence the opposing team could have.

Only time will tell if pros find it worthwhile to fit Emma Frost into the current meta, but it seems possible she could throw a wrench in some opposing teams’ plans.
