North American financial technology company Zytara has announced its intentions to launch a digital banking platform for gamers and esports fans.

Set to launch in early 2021, the first-of-its-kind platform will offer financial solutions that will be ‘deeply embedded into the gaming culture’, according to Zytara.

In collaboration with Zytara’s bank partners, the platform will offer a range of services, including a checking and savings account alongside access to a virtual and physical debit card. The Zytara mobile application will also offer integrated payments for gaming tournaments, parental controls, and player-to-player transfers.

Al Burgio, Founder and CEO of Zytara, spoke on the launch in a release: “Esports may still be maturing but as the industry is growing in force and reach, it doesn’t have a dedicated and tailored to gamers banking and payment processing solution. With over 20 percent of global gamers aged under 18, and a market that continues to grow, a payment solution that also supports under 18 users is long overdue. We’re thrilled to be bringing our platform to market – but that’s really just the start of the journey for us.”

Alongside the reveal of the platform, it has been announced that Andy Brown and Moritz Baier-Lentz have joined Zytara’s board of advisors. Brown served as Group Chief Technology Officer at investment bank UBS while Baier-Lentz joins the company after a tenure as Vice President of the investment banking division at Goldman Sachs.

Burgio also spoke on the new additions to the advisory board: “I am thrilled to have Moritz and Andy join our Advisory Board at this critical time ahead of our 2021 launch. As we’re solidifying our plans to drive forward financial education, inclusion, and literacy for millions of gamers and esports enthusiasts around the world, Moritz and Andy will contribute their expertise, experience, and thought leadership to Zytara – and to everyone who uses our banking solutions.”

Esports Insider says: The launch of a banking app focused around gamers and esports fans is certainly a niche that has yet to be tapped into by companies. It will be interesting to see how the app performs when it releases early next year.
