UK-based gaming and esports event organiser epic.LAN has announced a one-year partnership with North American technology company Intel.

As a result of the agreement, Intel will headline epic.LAN’s VALORANT esports tournaments in 2021, with the organiser’s epic32 competition having an increased prize pool of £2,000 minimum.

The prize pool could rise up to £4,300 depending on the number of teams competing in epic32’s VALORANT tournament. In addition, casual gamers will also have the opportunity to take part in the ‘Intel Community Championship’.

Jon Winkle, epic.LAN Managing Director, commented: “Intel is one of the biggest names in gaming and has been a long-standing supporter of all levels of esports worldwide.

“As epic.LAN events become powered by Intel in 2021, the partnership will unlock many new benefits for our viewers and participants; it will allow us to make some much-needed technological advancements to position epic.LAN as the go-to event for amateur gaming fans while still maintaining the important community feel to our events. We look forward to working with the team at Intel to show how important social gaming is to the UK right now.”

Last year due to the pandemic hampering physical events worldwide, epic.LAN introduced its epic.WAN online format to provide both gamers and esports competitors in the UK scene with tournaments.

Following the success of its online events, the tournament organiser has managed to secure partnership extensions with Overclockers UK and noblechairs. Meanwhile epic.LAN also announced that Logitech G has become the official peripherals partner for its 2021 events.

Regarding the epic.LAN partnership, Mark Walton, EMEA Technology and Gaming Comms Manager, added: “It’s been fantastic to see epic.LAN continue to grow and nurture the esports community throughout 2020. Social gaming has been a welcome outlet for many during these challenging times and Intel remains committed to supporting esports at both grassroots and professional levels.

“We’re proud to power epic.LAN throughout 2021 with Intel technologies and look forward to working with the team on some great tournaments and community events in the coming year.”

Esports Insider says: Given the difficulties many event organisers have faced due to the cancellation of physical events, it’s incredibly positive to see epic.LAN continue to secure partnerships. The agreement also highlights how the firm has successfully transitioned into an online format during the pandemic.
