Mobile device brand OPPO has sponsored the Philippines leg of 2021’s League of Legends: Wild Rift SEA Icon Series along with the region’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL).
According to the press release, OPPO’s sponsorship of the two esports competitions is part of the brand’s initiative to strengthen its ‘market foothold in the esports and gaming space’.
The partnership was made possible in part by OPPO’s collaboration with esports organisation Mineski. The newly-established partnership will see both entities look to enhance competitive gaming in the Philippines, with its first activation being the sponsorship of the region’s Wild Rift SEA Icon Series and the MPL competition.
OPPO Philippines Marketing Director Raymond Xia commented: “Gaming is a major source of leisure among younger Filipino consumers with 74 percent of the country’s online population engaged in mobile gaming. OPPO is fully committed to support the growing esports industry by providing both pro-gamers and amateur gamers with the best gaming platforms and mobile phones that can provide them excellent mobile gaming experience.”
Mineski Philippines Country Manager Mark Navarro added: “Our partnership with OPPO is a big step forward in our thrust to deliver excellence to Filipino gamers. OPPO’s support for our leagues ensures that gamers from different walks of life will experience professional-level esports in every level of competition.”
This isn’t OPPO’s first involvement in esports with the brand sponsoring Filipino esports organisation Liyab Esports, as well as being the official sponsor of the National Interschool Cyber League, which is part of Mineski’s Youth Esports Program.
