According to the release, the partnership will focus on providing the organisation’s athletes with access to esports whilst also supporting the development of ‘competitive experiences’.

As a result, participants will be provided with a range of tools and resources such as coaching programming and tournaments.

In August, Nerd Street Gamers held digital coaching programmes to equip staff for the implementation of an esports curriculum. The programmes offered tools that look to communicate and connect with players, alongside receiving recommended activities for future sessions.

John Fazio, CEO of Nerd Street Gamers, commented:  “At Nerd Street we want to help nurture the future of esports as a welcoming environment for all, and our partnership with Special Olympics Colorado and Special Olympics Texas is a testament to this commitment.

“Over the years, we have seen the positive impact esports can have on individuals with disabilities and hope to both provide a positive, fun experience for participants while demonstrating the opportunities that lie within the industry for long-term success.”

The esports infrastructure company has also announced that it will provide an ADA-compliant space within its Localhost facilities for Special Olympics Colorado and Texas. This will allow the organisations to conduct esports training and run league practices.

The release states that coaches have also been provided with a video-on-demand resource to help players learn. The VOD is said to provide an ‘alternative, effective educational tool’ that will help players learn games that are better taught visually instead of through audio.

Chris Darnell, Coach for Special Olympics Texas, added: “Sitting through the Nerd Street Gaming coaches webinar and training allowed me to see how easy it is to start getting athletes and volunteers excited for esports.

“I’m going to use this training to help get other volunteers interested in esports and help build esports teams in our less populated areas around Texas. This program has the ability to spread rapidly in Texas and I can’t wait to see it happen. The more I talk to athletes and coaches from around the state, the more they seem excited to start.”

Esports Insider says: Partnering with Special Olympics initiatives further shows Nerd Street’s drive to make esports available to everyone. The amount of preparation that has seemingly gone into the programmes is a good sign that the partnership will provide greater opportunities for the participants involved.
