Atlanta-based esports organisation Ghost Gaming has acquired esports content firm One Percent.
As a result of the acquisition, One Percent’s CEO Julian ‘Aeolus’ Castro has been appointed as Ghost Gaming’s Managing Director of Content and Community.
According to the release, the transaction is expected to further the organisation’s presence in Atlanta and become ‘the leading platform for popular gaming content creators in the South’.
Andrew Steinberg, Chair of the Board, Ghost Gaming, commented on the acquisition in a press release: “Ghost is the voice of Atlanta’s gaming culture, reaching the most coveted but otherwise elusive audience of 13-34 year olds.
“One Percent amplifies our audience throughout the South as a lifestyle brand, and we have other acquisitions on the roadmap as we cement our position as a next-generation, digitally-native media company.”
Ghost Gaming’s competitive rosters currently compete across a range of esports titles, such as Rocket League, Fortnite, Apex Legends, PUBG Mobile and VALORANT.
Founded in July 2020, One Percent has grown its YouTube following to a subscriber base above 1m. Prior to founding One Percent, Castro was Director at Luminosity Gaming and before that, the Founder and General Manager of Obey Alliance.
Todd Harris, Partner at Ghost Gaming, added: “We are excited to welcome Julian, and the entire One Percent crew, to Ghost Gaming. Their community growth has been astronomical, fueled by engaging gaming content and personalities. We’re confident their digital properties, and the people behind that content, will accelerate our growth as a gaming lifestyle brand.”
Esports Insider says: Once a strictly competitive programme for elite esports athletes, Ghost Gaming has since diversified its portfolio into new sectors such apparel, gambling, and content. Media and content is becoming increasingly more important for organisations in the current state of the industry, so it’s no surprise to see Ghost Gaming opting to combine efforts with another well known brand in this area.
