North American esports and gaming organisation FaZe Clan has partnered with Hulu’s animated TV show Solar Opposites to host a new Fortnite tournament in early July 2022.

Dubbed the Solar Opposites FaZe Elite Cup, the $50,000 (~£40,600) tournament will gather amateur and professional Fortnite players from North America.

The tournament will include an open qualifier for interested players from the North American region. The best-qualified players will get the chance to participate in the grand finals. There will be both solo and duo tournaments taking place, with $10,000 (~£8,400) and $40,000 (~£32,500) prize pools.

Throughout the tournament, FaZe Clan will also host a number of activations and giveaways for viewers.

This is also one of the rare times an esports tournament is used as a promotional tool for a release of a streaming series. Solar Opposites is scheduled to release its third season in July 2022.

Activision organised a similar tournament, albeit in a different game. The Terminal List – Warzone Rebirth Island Tournament was a jointly organised event by Activision and Amazon Prime.

FaZe Clan has also partnered with Practice Server, a tournament production company, for the event. The Elite Cup will be streamed through the Practice Server Twitch channel, as well as FaZe Clan channels.

FaZe Clan has been very active in 2022. Apart from the major news of the company going public, FaZe has secured partnerships with the likes of Disney and Ducky Keyboards, as well as fintech company Current. In March of 2022, rapper Snoop Dogg joined the company’s Board of Directors.
