Tricia Sugita has been announced by Cloud9 as its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), just days after leaving her role as FlyQuest CEO.
The announcement was made through a video posted on Cloud9’s Twitter account, in which the organisation’s Founder and CEO Jack Etienne introduces the new hire.
Sugita will be based in Cloud9’s headquarters in Santa Monica, California, reporting directly to Etienne. According to the organisation, she will lead the organisation’s global marketing efforts across all verticals including campaigns and activations from sponsors.
Sugita said in the announcement video: “I will be working on brand, on company vision, and share with you guys our ‘why’. Our ‘why’ is the most important: Why we got into esports, why we have this brand, why is it that we do the things we do, the titles that we bring, and also the initiatives that we launch.”
The news was widely well-received by Cloud9’s fans on social media, with FlyQuest fans getting an answer as to why Sugita unexpectedly left the organisation on June 13th.
“I’m very excited that Tricia is joining us because she truly understands that Cloud9 brand. And while I’m focusing on putting together the next big team, she will make sure Cloud9 is looking good,” said Etienne, also in the announcement video.
“I’ve worked in esports for a long time, but I think this may be the 1st time that I’ve felt truly unlimited in my potential. I’ve always had this mission to spread happiness and joy to people wherever I go, and I’m thrilled to be able to deliver that to our fans,” Sugita added on her personal Twitter.
Following Sugita’s departure from FlyQuest, the organisation’s former COO Michael Choi was appointed as the new CEO.
