Isle of Man-based esports organisation X7 Esports has announced the acquisition of British organisation London Esports.
As a result of the purchase, Alfie Wright, London Esports’ Founder and CEO has become X7 Esports’ new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Financial details of the acquisition were not announced.
X7’s COO role was previously held by Trev Harwood, who will be stepping down from the organisation and starting a yet-to-be-announced role.
The acquisition also sees X7 Esports take ownership of London Esports’ office at the Here East technology campus in London. The facility will act as a base of operations for the organisation, Wright and Josh Kingett, X7 Esports’ Founder and CEO, told Esports Insider.
As X7 Esports’ COO, Wright will be tasked with streamlining the organisation’s business development, building its partnerships portfolio and diversifying revenue streams. The organisation recently bolstered its partnership team by announcing Meg Sunshine as its Partnerships Executive.
Founded in 2017, London Esports has competed regionally across a variety of titles including CS:GO, League of Legends, Rocket League and VALORANT.
Wright told Esports Insider that London Esports’ peripherals partnership with ROCCAT expired in May this year, so the partnership won’t be included in the acquisition. Both Kingett and Wright also highlighted that the deal represents a major growth trajectory for X7 Esports, and floated a potential expansion into other titles.
“From an organisation’s perspective, we need to grow and growth is expansion,” stated Wright. “There will be another esport but I don’t think we want to commit to saying what it is yet until we can finalise it.”
Kingett continued: “I think the reason why we started in League of Legends originally was, I’m a League of Legends [fan] through and through, that’s kind of my bread and butter. So moving into any other title, I’m not afraid to say that I don’t have a Scooby-Doo when it comes to the structure needed or you know, what the right setting and infrastructure is.
“So having Alfie here is great because now we have subject matter experts in those games that we were less familiar with.”
This is X7 Esports’ third acquisition in the last nine months. The organisation has previously purchased Bulldog Esports and Absolved. Key staff within those companies also joined X7 Esports through the deals.
Competitively, X7 Esports has recently made a name for itself within the League of Legends European Regional League ecosystem, partially due to its business model which includes importing players from Korea and China.
