Esports-focused media company Zealium Media has acquired VALORANT esports news and statistics provider THESPIKE.GG.
This is the first purchase for Zealium Media, a new esports company launched by prominent former Betway personnel Tim Whyles and Adam Savinson.
Founded in 2020, THESPIKE.GG publishes news surrounding all areas of the professional VALORANT ecosystem, including coverage of online and offline competitions. As part of the acquisition, Zealium Media will take on all existing employees working on the website and aims to expand its presence within the VALORANT scene.
The acquisition is part of the company’s aggressive expansion plans into the esports industry. According to a release, further opportunites for expansion are also ‘on the horizon’.
THESPIKE.GG becomes the second addition to Zealium’s esports portfolio. The company also owns BGMI Scores, a statistics platform covering Battle Grounds Mobile India tournaments across the globe.
ESI reached out to Zealium Media for financial details regarding the acquisition of THESPIKE.GG, however, the company was unable to disclose any information.
In recent months, a number of asset acquisitions have taken place, particularly within the media space. In September, X1 Esports purchased Rocket League platform Octane.gg and GAMURS Group notably bought Enthusiast Gaming’s media assets.
Adam Savinson, Co-founder of Zealium Media, spoke on the deal: “THESPIKE.GG is a media asset with massive potential, and we simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity when it came across our desks.
“VALORANT esports continues to go from strength to strength and we believe that now is the best possible time for us to support this thriving community.”
