UK-based esports organisation Guild Esports has partnered with BTEC provider SCL Education to launch an esports college under the ‘Enigmaz’ brand.

The education programme will consist of a one-year BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Esports and a two-year BTEC Esports Level 3 Extended Diploma. Guild College’s first students will be in September 2023.

SCL Education is a provider of BTEC qualifications and is known for working with sports clubs such as Leeds United, for Leeds United College, and the West Ham Foundation. SCL Education will be tasked with managing the entirety of the esports programme, which Guild notes will result in minimum spend and increased headcount for the organisation itself.

The applications for the college programme are already underway, with Guild and SCL Education projecting that around 125 students will enrol in the programme in its first year. The course will consist of 600 hours of education per student over the course of an academic year. Moreover, the Guild Esports headquarters are to be open to students for workshops and practical courses.

Guild Esports’ Chief Executive Kal Hourd noted that the key benefit of this programme when compared against other post-16 educational programmes in the UK is the access to Guild’s facilities and the fact that it is supported by an esports organisation.

Stuart Allen, Group Director of Operations and Principal of Education, SCL Education, commented: “We’re delighted to be partnering with industry leaders, Guild Esports, to deliver our BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Esports.

“An organisation made up of passionate people with the shared mission of delivering a unique learning experience, our learners have a bright future ahead of them in an industry full of great career opportunities.”
