South Korean esport organisation Damwon Gaming KIA (DWG KIA) has rebranded to Dplus KIA ahead of the upcoming League of Legends LCK season.

The new brand, which includes an updated logo, will make its debut in the Season Kickoff event. According to the announcement, the rebranding looks to reflect the organisation’s global ambitions, however, all other aspects of the organisation will remain the same.

Damwon Gaming is most known for its League of Legends team, which has won Korea’s top-flight League of Legends league three times. The organisation also won the League of Legends World Championship in 2020. This is the second name change for Damwon Gaming. The team was simply called Damwon Gaming from 2017 to 2020 before it changed its name to DWG KIA as a result of the partnership with leading South Korean car manufacturer KIA Motors.

According to a release, the new name keeps the letter “D” to give a nod to the organisation’s legacy, while adding ‘plus’ to represent “expansive potential for a bright future”. KIA will remain as the organisation’s main sponsor and remains in the name of the organisation.

Dplus KIA noted that the new brand is the start of its effort to build a presence globally. This includes the development and execution of business opportunities that will expand the awareness of the Dplus KIA brand around the world. The organisation did not announce any specifics about the upcoming projects.
