The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has created the Oceania Esports Development Federation to expand its reach across the region.
The formation of the Federation is part of the Global Esports Federation’s plans to encourage the sustainable development of the esports industry around the world.
Former professional footballer Rebecca Smith has been named the President of the Oceania Esports Development Federation, which aims to promote the GEF’s objectives by providing resources and support to esports communities within Oceania.
The creation of the Oceania Esports Development Federation is the second expansion from the Global Esports Federation. In 2021, it created the Africa Esports Development Federation and the Pan Am Esports Federation to assist with growth in the regions.
Founded in 2019, the Global Esports Federation aims to encompass the entirety of the esports ecosystem in order to assist with sustainability efforts. This includes providing educational opportunities to promote its #worldconnected motto.
The Global Esports Federation continues to consolidate its position as a leading governing body within the esports industry. In May 2023, the Federation appointed Eric Brinkley as its Director of Programs and Content.
Smith, the newly-appointed President of the Oceania Esports Development Federation, spoke on the news: “I am thrilled to help shape the Oceania Esports Development Federation to rally our continent in the global esports movement.
“Together, we will help share sustainable growth, empowerment, and education opportunities – playing our part in the #worldconnected community”
