The Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) has partnered with the Big Data Development Bureau of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region located in Nanning, China, to host a large-scale esports event.
The event, called the ASEAN-China Esports Competition will gather national teams from several countries in Asia to compete in various esports tournaments.
Although not much is known about the scale of the tournament, the two parties noted that it is planned to take place sometime in the near future. The two partners will collaborate on all aspects of the tournament, including game title licensing, venue selection, planning and organisation, team invitations and other segments.
AESF will aim to provide its expertise and esports knowledge for the project. Meanwhile, the Big Data Development Bureau will work with local entities and help facilitate everything needed for the event to take place.
The main goal is, according to the two sides, is to elevate “the stature of esports in the region while fostering greater cultural exchange and camaraderie among nations.”
The upcoming tournament continue to highlight a growing trend of national-focused esports events in Asia. The 2022 Asian Games, a large-scale sporting event, included esports competitions between national teams as an official medal sport for the first time.
