Argentinian esports organisation KRÜ Esports — owned by former professional footballer Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero — has further expanded into traditional sport with a padel team.

KRÜ Padel will compete in the Hexagon Cup, a padel tournament featuring teams led by celebrities.

Other figures set to lead Hexagon Cup teams include tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski and actress Eva Longoria.

The tournament borrows the structure that led to the success of the Kings League – a Spanish seven-a-side football league with teams led by the likes of MAD Lions KOI’s Ibai Llanos, former footballer Iker Casillas, Team Heretics Co-Owner David ‘TheGrefg’ Cánovas and KRÜ owner Aguero himself.

According to a release, KRÜ’s padel venture was formed through a collaboration with the existing padel organisation Taktika Pádel, which operates across the United States and Mexico. The partnership is supported by the Business Padel Tour, a platform that promotes padel at a business level within Spain, per a release.

KRÜ Padel is set to feature Argentine player Federico Chingotto, currently ranked fourth worldwide, as its franchise player and captain. Chingotto will be joined by Claudia Jensen on the court, while Maxi Sánchez is added as a coach.

Ran by the former Manchester City footballer Aguero, KRÜ Esports has become one of the largest Spanish-speaking esports organisations since its inception in 2020. KRÜ competes across a range of titles, including VALORANT, Rocket League and Counter-Strike 2. In November of last year, Aguero’s former Argentina teammate and World Cup winner Lionel Messi joined KRÜ as a co-owner

On the creation of KRÜ Padel, Aguero commented: “We are very excited to expand KRÜ towards a sport as dynamic as padel, and even more so to do so with Taktika Padel. Hexagon is a platform that is taking this sport to another level, and we are here to compete and give our best.”
