Game developer and publisher Riot Games has announced a partnership with gaming internet browser Opera GX.

As a result of the deal, the browser will become the preferred browser partner of all League of Legends global events.

The partnership between Riot Games and Opera GX begins on September 25th coinciding with the start of the League of Legends World Championship. The browser will partner the Worlds Unlocked promotion which contains a range of limited-edition in-game and physical items.

In addition to the promotion, Opera GX will power a co-streaming hub, a directory featuring over 75 channels that are streaming matches.

Opera GX is no stranger to the esports industry. In 2023, the browser became the lead partner of North American esports organisation Moist Esports. The browser also collaborated with GRID to launch the DataJam alongside Esports Insider.

Riot Games continues to engage in various initiatives to help the esports scenes within it’s games grow. In August 2024, the publisher announced custom emotes for teams competing in the highest tier of League of Legends esports. In June, it revealed plans to merge the LCS, CBLOL, and LLA into the pan-Americas league for the 2025 season.

David Mulhall, Head of Global Esports Partnerships at Riot Games, spoke on the deal: “Opera GX is the ideal partner for LoL Esports as they are a brand built for players, by players, and there’s no better time for us to showcase our new collaboration than during Worlds.

We’re thrilled for the opportunity that this partnership brings to reimagine what an immersive and dynamic esports fan experience looks like, and we see this year as just scratching the surface of what’s possible for our brands to create together.
