Samsung Ghana, the regional division of electronics manufacturer Samsung, has joined forces with Ghanaian esports organisation PlayProvince to support its Call of Duty Mobile efforts.

As a result of the partnership, PlayProvince’s Call of Duty Mobile team, Aura 233, will be equipped with Samsung Galaxy smartphones as the roster competes in the Carry1st Call of Duty Africa Cup in Kenya.

PlayProvince is a prominent player in Ghana’s esports ecosystem with the organisation recognised as the first verified esports team in the country by FIFAe, the esports division of football governing body FIFA. The esports organisation aims to strengthen Africa’s developing esports sector.

The Carry1st tournament is claimed to be Africa’s largest Call of Duty Mobile tournament to date, with teams from six participating countries competing for a prize pool of $15,000 (~£11,900). The offline finals for the Call of Duty mobile tournament will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from November 21st-22nd.

Global electronics manufacturer Samsung has made a series of initiatives in the mobile esports sector, such as launching a separate PUBG Mobile team in partnership with NRG. The electronics manufacturer also is the device partner for FFWS Southeast Asia, one of Free Fire’s major esports leagues.

Samsung’s partnership with PlayProvince looks to bolster Africa’s developing esports sector. More recently, global payments facilitator Mastercard tapped into the country’s esports sector with the inaugural Casablanca Esports Summit.

Kwesi Hayford, President of the Esports Association Ghana, told Esports Insider: “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Corporate Ghana’s support for our esports space. This initiative not only raises awareness among other corporate entities about the potential of esports for brand visibility among younger generations but also serves as an inspiration and motivation for grassroots esports communities and teams to explore all avenues for partnership.”
