BoomTV has closed its doors after a decade of hosting and operating esports tournaments in North America.
The event organiser announced it is ceasing all ongoing events and esports operations across a range of titles including Apex Legends and Fortnite.
Although BoomTV has yet to provide official confirmation on its shutdown, several members of staff have revealed layoffs have impacted them.
“Today (March 18th) marks the end of an incredible journey as BoomTV shuts down its events operations,” said Michael Slandzicki, the organiser’s former event project manager.
“Over time, I became deeply involved in our influencer and sponsorship activations, helping produce signature Fortnite events and many Proving Ground tournaments. Thank you the the players, fans, and everyone I’ve worked with – your support means everything.”
BoomTV’s most recent project was March Fragness, an Apex Legends tournament originally planned to take place on March 13th, 2025. On the day of the event, it was announced the event would be postponed.
Alongside Apex Legends, the organiser had joined forces with UK streamer Morgan ‘Angryginge’ Burtwistle to host a zero-build Fortnite event with a $25,000 (~£19,281) prize pool.
Since launching in 2015, BoomTV has collaborated with several brands including Activision, Respawn Entertainment and the U.S. National Guard. It has hosted hundreds of tournaments with $2.9m (~£2.2m) in prize money awarded to participants.
The platform also provided opportunities for on-air talent, with several going on to join the broadcasts of some of the biggest esports tournaments in the world.
2025 continues to be a turbulent time for various areas of the esports industry. In March, UK-based organisation Noctem Esports shut its doors with immediate effect, leaving staff and players searching for a new organisation to represent.
Layoffs have also impacted some of the largest tournament organisers in the world. In February, Esports Engine underwent layoffs which affected employees of ESL FACEIT Group.
