The FIA, the world governing body of motorsports, has announced a new sim racing esports competition targeted at women and girls aged 16 and older.
The FIA Girls of Track Esports Cup is being run in partnership with racing simulation rig manufacturer Advanced SimRacing and popular sim racing game iRacing.
According to FIA’s announcement earlier today, any woman or girl aged 16 and over can compete in the competition, regardless of prior esports experience. To sign up, participants must register for the event on FIA’s website. Moreover, an active iRacing account is required to compete.
Online qualifications for the competition are officially underway. The first stage involves participants aiming to set the fastest lap in iRacing Time Attack. The online qualification section will conclude on May 6th.
Following the first stage, the top 10 performers will be invited to the 2025 FIA Extraordinary General Assemblies Week in Macau, set to take place in June. There, the participants will compete in an in-person multi-day final to be crowned the first FIA Girls of Track Esports Cup champion.
According to the FIA, the 10 finalists will also gain valuable insights into the motorsport industry via media training workshops and networking opportunities.
“We know that Esports is the future – but for the discipline to truly grow and develop, we need to encourage more girls and women to get involved,” highlighted Niroshan Pereira, FIA Esports Commission President.
“We hope that this competition will act as a catalyst, encouraging aspiring racers to try out our discipline and consider pursuing a career in motorsport.”
This is the first time the FIA Girls of Track initiative has been used for esports competitions. Perhaps its most famous project was the FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars programme, which supported young female drivers across four editions from 2020 to 2023.
The FIA’s decision to launch an esports competition dedicated to women further outlines the governing body’s push into the competitive gaming scene. Late last year, the FIA made headlines by approving the creation of the FIA Esports Code, a regulatory framework to regulate sim racing competitions.
