The female League of Legends team of G2 Esports, G2 Hel, has secured the promotion to the Liga Nexo following its win in the promotion tournament.

This marks a significant milestone for the female esports scene, with G2 Hel becoming the first female team to be promoted into the second division of the European Regional League.

G2 Hel managed to defeat Spanish opponents Dream Makers in the decisive qualification series, taking the victory with a 3-2 record, in a series where G2 Hel started out with a deficit and ended up turning it around in the last two games.

Dream Makers were the eighth-place team in Split 2 of the Liga Nexo and with the loss, the team has been relegated to the third division.

The promotion marks an important milestone for women in LoL Esports, as G2 Hel is the first team to be promoted into tier-two competitions. Other game titles also saw several milestones achieved by female players, such as Ava ‘florescent’ Eugene, who became the first VALORANT Game Changers player to compete in a tier-one competition, and Shopify Rebellion Gold. This female lineup qualified for VCT NA Challenger Stage 1, the tier two competition below VCT Americas.

While they previously played in the second division of the Northern LoL Championship (NLC), G2 Hel didn’t earn the spot through a promotion tournament. At the time, G2 Hel finished last in the Spring Split, going 2-16 and were immediately relegated.

The 2025 roster underwent two player swaps compared to last year’s lineup. Top laner Olivia ‘Lizia’ Calistus and mid laner Manon ‘Sha’ Legaignoux were replaced by Zeniv and Rym ‘rym’ Salloum. Zeniv previously played for German organization NNO’s sister team, while rym played on Solary Academy, competing in domestic competitions in France.

The team is now expected to take part in the upcoming Liga Nexo 24-25 Split 3. The starting date for the third split is yet to be announced. Following the third split, G2’s sister team is also expected to take part in the upcoming 2025 Equal Esports Cup, starting on July 1st.
