European esports organisation NAVI has announced the signing of two female Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) lineups for the upcoming Esports World Cup.
The two teams have been bought out from the Filipino team Omega Esports and the Malaysian team Arcane Ladies as NAVI aims for a top-finishing positions in the game title at this year’s Esports World Cup.
Notably, the Filipino female squad was the MLBB Women’s Invitational 2024 champions, representing Omega Esports at the 2024 Esports World Cup and dominating Team Vitality in the final, taking home $180,000 (~£135,400) of the $550,000 (~£413,800) prize pool.
The team is currently competing in the Athena League and has placed in first place at the end of the group stage. In order to qualify for the MLBB Women’s Invitational 2025, the female MLBB event at EWC, NAVI will have to finish in the top two positions at the end of the playoff stage.
Arcane Ladies, on the other hand, have already secured a slot at the MLBB Women’s Invitational 2025, which will be held from July 15th to 19th.
NAVI Further Expands its Roster as it Aims for the EWC Club Championship
With the pickup of two female rosters, NAVI continues its expansion of game titles, increasing the number to 15 teams. Earlier this year, the esports team made its entrance in CrossFire and Chess.
The strategy aligns with NAVI’s goal to fight for the Esports World Cup Club Championship, a multi-million-dollar initiative. The team with the most amount of points at the end of the EWC will win an additional $7m (~£5.2m) in prize money.
According to this year’s rulebook, teams are required to compete under the same name to be eligible for the Club Championship points, which is why NAVI announced the rosters ahead of the roster lock deadline, which happens today at 23:59 AST (May 16th, 04:59 UK time).
